Syntagma Square, Athens

Just outside Hotel Grande Bretagne lies Syntagma Square (Constitution Square), a large plaza outlined by trees and benches, sprinkled with pigeons. A large fountain serves as the square's centerpiece, and you'll find people relaxing here to escape the summer heat. The square was named after the constitution granted to the Greek people by King Otto on September 3, 1843.
Syntagma Square is a perfect hub for any day trip - the metro runs beneath it, and trolleys, trams and tour busses all stop here. Centrally located, it's very near many of Athens' archaeological wonders. From here, you can observe the changing of the Presidential Guard at the Greek Parliament and walk to the National Gardens.
If you want to stay connected with friends and family at home, simply take a seat in the warm Greek sun and use the square's free public wi-fi.
